Monster Truck Jam: A Guest Post by Daddy

8 years ago Mol and I lived in Maine. While there, several very special things happened. We befriended a wine sommelier and indulged in some of the finest and most expensive wines we’ve ever drank, we swam in the ice-cold ocean at night and, most importantly, I attended a Lumber Jack show. Thus beginning my White Trash Bucket List (from here on known as WTBL. Not to be confused with the White Transvestite Basketball League).

There are 3 items on this WTBL. 1: Lumberjack Show (check). 2: Nascar (Yet to attend, though I’ve seen “Cars” enough to be an honorary member of this club. 3: Monster Truck Jam…
But this blog isn’t about me and my WTBL, this is about Owen’s new and updated WTBL.

Ben Zobel and Kat Hanson bought Owen 3 tickets to the monster truck show for his third birthday. We met Ben, my best friend from childhood, at a pizza place in Bridgeport, Ct. Owen was drunk with excitement.

Two Boots Pizza didn’t serve up the most delicious pizza

but soon enough it was time to go to the show and the excitement was palpable.
We scored some pretty amazing seats:

We were in the 2nd row of “safe seats” (a term that proved less reassuring once the trucks began revving their engines). Ben and Owen were glued to their chairs. The show was beginning:

…or so we thought

Finally...STUFF happened

It turns out trucks can’t really do a lot of STUFF...just three kinds of, um "stuffs." They can spin in circles, drive over cars, and do wheelies. That's about all. I mean at least this one looked like a lobster...

But even the the Crushstation driver was a little bored. He napped through most of the event. Yes that’s his helmet in the window. He honestly and truly napped whenever he wasn't driving.

In spite of the fact that Monster Truck shows, it turns out, are kind of, a little bit, sort of...boring, this was truly an incredible day. Owen has since made me create a monster jam track in our living room so that he can recreate the show. We even make Molly roll up T-shirts and throw them at our mock audience. What a tremendous afternoon!

Next up on out WTBL...Beer Can Christmas Tree!

The first photo of the boy sitting in the back of the car must be Owen's body-double, Fauxen. He has not been around much lately, so good to see he still maintains his verve and vitality.

This little guy is getting quite an education. Some day I'll tell him all about my days watching stock car races and demolition derbies (for real) .

Perhaps allmofnour boys can go together one day. Doug and Eli had an awesome time in Worcester at the Monster Truck Jam and we too have been making monster truck jams in our living room ever since....
