One Year Old!

I can barely believe it. This has been the fastest year of my life. How is he one already? Today has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster for me. How can our little lamb already be out of infancy and into toddlerhood? How is it possible that at this time last year, we had only just met Owen when it feels like he has been our world since the beginning of all creation? Today is a day of great joy. Despite the fact that I am a little sad the year passed so quickly, I wouldn't trade a single moment for time to slow down.
One year ago today we welcomed Owen into the world. The poor bear was suctioned, poked, prodded and stuck. It was a beautiful day, but a hard day--especially for him! We have (hopefully) made up for it with a year of much holding, cuddling, kissing and loving. Here are a few pictures of his first hour on the planet:

What an exhausting day September 2, 2008 was!

September 2,2009 was exhausting for Owen in a completely different way. We hit two swing sets (one old, one new), took the subway to visit daddy downtown, ate homemade strawberry cupcakes, gave mommy about 800 kisses on the train ride home, opened presents, crawled through pigeon poop, had a giggle-fest at dinner, learned to play with puzzles and waved at everyone on the street. Here is a look at the hours that filled today. It is mind blowing what a child can learn to do in just 52 short weeks.

The day began with a swing in the bucket seats!

A crawl through the green grass was a lovely way to continue his very first birthday.

This may only be his second taste of cake ever....

but Owen is already a pro!

A visit at daddy's office and a walk around the premises.

Fun on the second set of swings.

Crawling around a new park, and right through pigeon poo. He rode home in just his onesie and shoes. Is it wrong that I found that ensemble adorable?

We gave him a puzzle for his birthday. it was incredible watching him try to figure our how it works. He understood that all the pieces were meant to be on the board-- so he kept putting them there. What a smarty pants!

He's one and THRILLED!

To be initiated into the land of birthdays, Owen got his first off-tune yelling of the birthday song from nanny. This is something anyone fortunate enough to know Diane and David is treated to each year on his or her birthday. We laugh about how we dread the call-- but if a birthday passed without it, we would be genuinely sad. When Owen turns two, he will get the version with nanny AND poppy singing accompanied by Lily, the world's loudest dog, barking in the background. Right now, he is just too young to handle that level of awesome. His expression says it all:

Here is a little montage of Owen's first birthday. It makes me cry, but as noted earlier-- today has been a bit of a roller coaster!

Happy birthday sweet love!

Yay Owen! Molly don't worry, he's not a toddler until he toddles! (At least that's what I keep telling myself... can't he just be my baby a little longer?) Cute videos + sentimental soundtrack = tearjerker.

Just the best little guy! Happy, happy birthday! I was proud of myself that I wasn't tearing up like everyone else but then, along came the last part: the sweet, closed-mouth laughing and that was too much for me.
